Boxing Day is primarily a British holiday, also celebrated in Canada, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It’s the day after Christmas (or the following Monday if Christmas falls on the weekend) when all the sales are on, Christmas leftovers are enjoyed, and spending time with family and friends is a priority. (Yeah, we thought there was a chance it had to do with actual boxing, too.)
Sure, we Americans aren’t as experienced with Boxing Day. But it does fall the week between Christmas and New Year’s, and that’s usually around the time we want to relax, eat whatever we want, and try to get our houses back in order after all the excitement. It can be hard to get motivated to do the last part (we’ve got the first two covered), we know. It’s so much easier to take it all out than put it back up.
